Week of January 21st

Hello Parents:

I am very happy to be back!  Thank you for all the holiday and well wishes.  We were very thankful that Mrs. Papzcun and Ms. Byas were able to join our classroom.

We are going to conclude our Little Pigs study this week.  We are excited to delve into our Vermicomposting Study.  In our classroom compost we have Red Wigglers.  We are going to learn all about their anatomy, their diets, and how they help our garden.  We will release the worms and the compost into the garden this spring.  Be sure to ask your child about the Gizzard, and the worms diet….are worms vegetarian?

The vermicomposting will jump start our Winter Garden Project Based Study!  In conjunction, with Kohl Children’s Museum we will do an in depth study on winter gardening.  The museum has provided us with training, materials, and 2 free field trips.  Our first field trip will occur on Friday, February 22nd.  All children will attend from 8:45-1:00.  Children will need to bring a nut free sack lunch.  We will not have access to a fridge or microwave, so all food must edible at room temperature.  Permission slips will be sent home next week.

We are in need of new play dough for the month of February and beyond.  Please sign up if you are willing to make us a big batch!  Thank you!

Please remember that we will most likely go outdoors if the weather is appropriate.  Please remember to send appropriate winter gear, so that the children can warmly explore outdoors during the long winter months.  If anyone has any gently used winter gear (hats, mittens, snow pants, and boots) and they would like to donate them we would really appreciate it.

Mittens are awesome for preschoolers!  They keep their hands warm and are easier for young children to put on.  If mittens are an option for you please send your child in with them.
