Week of November 5th

Hello Parents:

We have been thoroughly enjoying investigating gourds, apples, and pumpkins! Be sure to check out our bulletin board to see all of the cool activities the children participated in. We want to thank all of the parents who accompanied us on the field trip! We really appreciate all the help! I also want to thank the parents who have kept our room stocked with playdough. If you would like to volunteer to make play dough for our class, please sign-up on our play dough calendar beside the sign- in sheet.

Ms. Maggie has discovered a new playdough recipe! It is a NO COOK one. Here’s how you make it:

2 cups flour
1 cup salt
3 tablespoons cream of tartar (powder)
2 tablespoons oil
2 cups boiling water
1 tsp. Peppermint extract (or we can put our school oils in it as well)
Food coloring

Directions: Put all ingredients in a bowl and stir! Knead until smooth. Easy right!

November will be a very busy month for us. We will move onto to studying leaves. Please keep a look out in your child’s mailbox for a home “collection” activity in the next couple of weeks.

Picture Retake Day is November 13th!  If you would like your child to retake their photo (or if you missed the original date) please let me know!

Please be sure to sign up for Parent & Teacher Conferences.

We are excited to conduct this year’s very first Parent & Child Activity on Tuesday, November 20th from 9:15 to 10:15 in the school cafeteria. This is a time where parents can experience some of the learning activities students participate in at school. Parents must accompany children during this hour. There will be no regular class on November 20th. I will conduct parent-teacher conferences for the returning children from 10:30-12:00 on this day as well. There is not enough time to see 40 parents on the designated day (November 14th). Please be sure to sign up on the correct sheet (located by the sign-In sheets).

As the weather gets cooler please be sure to dress your child appropriately. In addition, please check your child’s extra clothes in their cubby to make sure they are weather appropriate for the changing weather.

Being that the days are shorter and the weather is cooler outside time will start to become limited. Chicago Public Schools has a great alternative site for parents and kids and to access.
