Week of March 12th

Hello Parents:

We would like to thank all of the parents who brought in the “big ticket” items. The children are thoroughly enjoying them. We have been adding new terms to our baby vocabulary! So far we have learned: swaddle, babble, nursing, cooing, drooling, and sling (for the bathtub). We will continue to add new words… please be sure to ask your child about our study.

Last week we tasted store bought baby food! Be sure to ask your child if they enjoyed the homemade baby food or the store bought!

We will start this week with our guest Ms. Katie who is an infant psychotherapist and baby masseuse. We will also be creating our own versions of baby toys! Please keep a lookout for our creations at weeks end!

Did you know:
1 disposable cup of coffee a day creates 23 pounds of waste per year.
Every four coffee cups produced is responsible for 1 pound of CO2 emissions.
20 million trees are cut down each year to make paper cups.
Many paper cups are coated with plastic and can’t be recycled.

Ditch the cup for one week!
March 12th – 16th
Save Money & Help Save the Planet

Our 5th and 6th grade science students are learning about how humans impact the environment. They are challenging all adults at Ray to brew their coffee at home instead of buying a cup and then donating your savings. There will be a collection jar in the conference room. All money collected will be donated to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital which is the charity the students selected.

Although there are many factors to consider in making a cup of coffee at home, the average cost is about $0.32 for a 16 ounce cup, which includes coffee grounds, filter, water, and electricity.

Field Trip Forms are due Friday, March 16, 2018. The trip wot Emerald City Theatre will be Friday, May 11, 2018.

Our Spring Break will be from Monday, March 26th – Friday, March 30th. We will have our third Parent and Child Activity on Friday, March 23rd from 9:30-10:30 in the school cafeteria. Remember that an adult must stay and cycle through the activities with their child. All students should attend this session.

We have a new addition to our Lending Library. We have added “Math Books” and activities (in large Ziploc bags) to our lending library. Please treat them like a regular library book and return the entire bag to the blue book return box. Please encourage your child to try the activity after reading the story!

Have a great week,

Ms. Bethanie & Ms. Maggie
