October 19, 2015

Hello Parents:
We have been thoroughly enjoying exploring apples. The children have tasted a variety of apples and we made applesauce in the class. We have been focusing on the parts of the apple. The following key vocabulary we are using is: stem, leaf, skin, flesh, core, seeds, pips, tangy, sweet, sour, crisp, and crunchy. We will continue with our study of apples this week and move onto a deeper study of pumpkins and gourds until the end of October.
We welcomed our U of C student volunteer Ms. Alex this past Wednesday. Ms. Alex will volunteer in our class on Wednesday mornings. The children enjoy her presence in the classroom. Please feel free to introduce yourself to her.

The October & November calendar for volunteers is posted and we want to thank Serena (Miles’ mom) for signing up to help us out in the classroom. Please sign up to volunteer if you would like to spend time in our classroom or help out with “housekeeping” duties as well.
Please remember to join the Ray PTA if you have not already done so.
If you would like to join us on the field trip please let me know ASAP. We are only allowed a certain number of volunteers. Please be sure to turn in the forms and payment by Monday, October 26th.
Please see archived September 2015 posts for information about the Lottery for Kindergarten.
