Week of September 9th

Hello parents:

We have completed week 1! The children are thoroughly enjoying exploring the classroom materials and making new friends. We have already generated a “Taking care of each other” list and developed our “Loft Limits.” Please be sure and check out the list and review them with your child.

We are excited to have Mrs. Maggie Swanson (mommy to 2 children at Ray and a past preschool volunteer) will join us each day midday from 12-2. Mrs. Swanson will be assisting with outdoor/gross motor activities, rest time, and as the year goes on more focused activities such as art, music, & dance.

Mrs. Swanson will be not able to work September 23rd through October 11th. We are need for volunteers during that time. If you are willing to volunteer from 12-2 any of those days we would much appreciate it! Please let me know if you are interested. You must have completed the required CPS background check. If you are a returning Ray parent and went through the process last year you do not have to complete it again. We will check and make sure that your approved status is still valid.

Please be sure to send in your name letters and family photo. Our classroom family tree still has room for all of our wonderful family photos, so please send them in!

If you have any updated medical records please be sure to turn them in as soon as possible!

We will send home your child’s blanket and stuffy each Friday, please remember to return them on Monday.

We have placed school menus in your child’s mailbox.  The menus are sometimes changed and other meals are offered.  If your child has dietary restrictions for either health or religious reasons and you would like your child to eat a school lunch and would need substitutions a doctors note must be presented.

I have sent everyone a Class Dojo invitation via email and placed paper directions in all of the children’s mailboxes. This is a great tool for me to share what’s happening during our school day as well as quick reminders about upcoming events. You can also send me quick messages as well. If you need to send me a longer or more serious message please do so via my email: bsmith4@cps.edu.

We would like to thank all of the families who have brought in supplies! We are very grateful!

The children love using play dough and we have a calendar (located near the regular sign in sheet) that we ask for parents to sign up to bring in play dough. We have a couple of recipes that we love. You are welcomed to use ours or your own favorite. I will send our favorites via Class Dojo and paper copies are located behind the calendar.

Upcoming Events:
Open House:-Thursday, September 12, 2019 from 4:00-6:00 pm.  The first hour will be in classrooms and the second hour will be in the auditorium for a State of the School address by administration. I highly encourage everyone to attend. This is a time when you learn about my personal philosophy, academic expectations, and our positive classroom community. The session will run much smoother if it is an adult only meeting, please arrange child care for at least the hour in the classroom.

Lending Library will begin this week. Please be sure to look over the procedure page. The children will check out the book/math bag on Wednesdays and return the items on the following Tuesday.
