Hello Parents,

The children have been working hard analyzing the various stories.  Please be sure to check out all of the detailed work the children have completed.  The children will be bringing home their Story Elements work this week to share with families.  The children focused on: the setting, the characters, the problems, and the solution.  Be sure to ask your child about those aspects of the story.

In addition, to our Goldilocks study we have been working hard on “Movement & Music”, making sets of 3, 4, and 5 (age collages), and patterning.  Please be sure to check out the math area to view our cool hula hoop math game!

This week will be extending our math focus by adding measurement to the focus.  Please check out the following link to view what we will be doing this week: http://earlymath.erikson.edu/just-right-for-me-children-games-preschool-kindergarten/ .  The video is a part of Erikson’s early math series that I participated in a few years ago.  I will post more links as I continue to use the various techniques that are highlighted in the series.

If you send outdoor items to school the rule is they must wear it out. Also, please be sure to put sunblock on your child before they come to school.

We will focus on the basic 1 dimensional shapes (circle, square, triangle, rectangle, pentagon, hexagon, octagon, and rhombus). We will focus the following attributes of shapes: angles, points, lines, curved lines, vertices, and sides. Hello Parents:

Your will be bringing home a sheet entitled “Story Elements of Goldilocks and the 3 Bears” and is divided into the 4 components: Setting, Characters, Problem, & Solution. Be sure to ask your child about where the story took place, who were the characters, what some of the problems were, and what the final solution was. The sheet being sent home is based off of the original story of Goldilocks. We will be exploring various versions and you can extend your child’s learning by asking the same questions throughout the study.

Hello Parents:

We have wrapped up our jazz exploration (but we still listen to a lot of jazz)! We are learning lots of new vocabulary while reading various versions of The 3 Little Pigs. A few of those words are: Annoyed, Trotted, Mortar, Chat, Pounced, Trembling, Prowling, Crumble, Fantastic, and Cauldron. Follow up at home will assist in solidifying the new words into your child’s vocabulary. Try to use the words in everyday language or when discussing the stories we have been reading at school.

The preschool team has placed a parent information board outside our classrooms (the small bulletin board across from our “Out” door and in between Ms. Heiser & Ms. Weinberg’s classrooms. Be sure to check it out. If you have anything newsworthy about cool happenings in Hyde Park and would like to share it with our families please let me know!
