Week of December 19th

Hello Parents:

The children are super excited for our Gingerbread Celebration. We are counting down the days. If you have signed up to bring some of the decorations please bring them in this week. We need everything by Wednesday, December 21st. Thank You!

If you have not turned in your “Act of Kindness Light bulb” please do so ASAP. The children have enjoyed talking about all the various ways we can be kind to others.

Please remember to help your child learn to independently put on their hat, coat, scarf, boots, snow pants at home. We want our students to be able to dress themselves as much as possible. If you can purchase mittens rather than gloves, we would much appreciate it. Mittens are much easier for kids to put on independently. We have been practicing putting on our winter gear in the following order:

1st snow pants (if you have on shoes you must take them off first),

2nd. Snow boots

3rd. Sweaters & Coats

4th. Hats & scarves

5th Mittens or Gloves.

It would be really helpful if you practiced the same order at home as well.

Once the weather warms up will resume going outdoors to play. We will go out and explore in the snow. Please be sure to dress your child in snow boots and snow pants. Waterproof gloves/mittens are also helpful. If you have any snow pants or boots that you would like to donate to our classroom (for children who do not have them) we would be very grateful.
Thank you again for all your assistance with the new arrival and dismissal procedure. When there is inclement weather the Pre-K staff will open the doors 5 minutes early so that parents and children can sit at the back three tables of the cafeteria instead of waiting in the frigid weather.

We are trying our best to keep the students healthy by washing hands, disinfecting the room and using our cough catchers. However, we understand that students will still get sick. Please make sure that you are sending a note when your child returns so that they are not receiving unexcused absences. Please remember, that children must be free from fever, vomiting, and/or diarrhea a full 24 hours before returning to school.

Please be sure to check your child’s mailbox Wednesday for a Winter Break Sweet Treat and a Free Family Treat.

Our second Parent and Child Activity will be held Friday, December 23rd in the school cafeteria from 9:15-10:30. All children (accompanied by an adult) are invited to participate at this time. There will be no regular class on December 23rd.

Winter Break- December 26th- January 6th. School resumes January 9th.

The children are loving all the different versions of the Gingerbread Man! We have been busy comparing the different versions, acting out the stories and taking about the different characters. Please be sure to check out our work on the bulletin board outside and throughout our classroom. Next week, we will continue our study by reading The Gingerbread Cowboy and The Gingerbread Kid Goes to School.
We are going to also start to focus on celebrations and how to show kindness to others. The closer we get to our Gingerbread celebration the more we will focus on acts of kindness. Please be sure to turn in your child’s light with “an act of kindness” written on them. We will hang them up in our room.

Thank you so much to the parents that have sign up to bring items for our Gingerbread Man decorating and the volunteers that are coming in to assist us.

Hello Parents:
We want to thank all of the parents who have complied with new entry and exit procedure. Our first priority is ensuring everyone’s safety and well being. Please be sure to only enter the building when Preschool Staff member opens the doors. We realize that others may be trying to be kind or helpful by opening the doors for you, but we need to abide by the new system. If a child, or another parent opens the door before the set time of enter/exit, simply refuse to enter and let the child or other parent know that you are waiting for the preschool staff to open the doors. Thank you for your assistance in making our school safe for everyone.

We will continue our study of the various versions of the Gingerbread Man. Please be sure to check out the vocabulary words we have been discussing. The list is posted on the bulletin board in the room behind the bathroom door. The children will also begin to work on the story summaries and comparing the various stories. . Please be sure to check out all of the charts and diagrams that will posted throughout the room.

The children will end the school year by finishing their study of the Gingerbread Boy and Celebrations.
We will have our Gingerbread Man/Winter celebration on Thursday, December 22nd. I will be supplying the Gingerbread cookies (thanks to Mariano’s Grocer). We will need a variety a decorating materials. If you are able to bring one of the items needed please sign up on the sheet.

We are also asking parents to volunteer to assist in the decorating of the cookies. There will be a sign up sheet placed by the clipboards in the next couple of weeks. We are asking to have at least 2 parents a session to assist us.

We are also in need of 1 more batch of play dough to get through the end of 2016. Please sign up on the play dough calendar if you would like to make the batch.

Our second Parent and Child Activity will be held Friday, December 23rd in the school cafeteria from 9:15-10:30. All children (accompanied by an adult) are invited to participate at this time. There will be no regular class on December 23rd.
