New Entry and Exit Procedure. Effective Wednesday, November 30, 2016

In light of school safety issues nationally, Ray is tightening security procedures for both student arrival and dismissal. Please understand our purpose for doing this is to keep every student in our school safe and to eliminate the possibility of any intruders.

At arrival, parents will be asked to line up WITH THEIR CHILD outside of the glass doors outside of the Annex (door 18-glass doors closest to 57th Street). My classroom will line up in the middle of the annex walkway. Parents and students will be escorted into the building with classroom staff. Staff will be walking parents into the building at 8:45/1:10 SHARP. If you arrive after 8:45/1:10, you will need to walk to the main entrance to get a pass. Parents will enter the room, help their child take off their coats, sign their child in/out and have 1 of 2 options to exit the building. Option 1: Parents who want to leave the room immediately after signing in will be escorted out of the building by Ms. Moore. Option 2: Parents who would like to read a book or help with journals are welcomed to stay and assist in the classroom until 8:55/1:20 and then Ms. Moore will escort that group of parents out of the building. Parents are no longer allowed to enter or exit our classroom without a staff member escorting them out of the building.

For pick up, parents will line up outside of the annex glass doors. A staff member will escort parents into the building at dismissal. Parents will be brought in at 11:20/3:45 SHARP. If you are late, you will need to get a pass from the main office. Parents will come into the room, get their child and leave with a staff member escorting them out of the building.

Thank-you for your understanding!

Due to a recent safety concern. starting Monday, November 21, 2016, Pre-K parents will not be allowed to wait in the building for their students to be released. Parents/caregivers cannot enter the building before class starts or before dismissal time without going to the office first.

We said our goodbyes to Ms. Katherine on Friday. We will miss her and we wish her well in her future endeavors! We only have class on Monday and Tuesday this week. We are on Thanksgiving Break Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday.

Please be sure to check your mailboxes for extra activities to do during the break. If you did not order school photos (or you would like to order additional photos) you can review the mini picture (in your child’s mailbox) and follow the instructions on the flyer to order them.

We will be finishing up our Fall/Autumn study and moving onto The Gingerbread Man and Family Celebrations. We will be exploring the various versions of the Gingerbread Man and ending our study with Gingerbread treats and our classroom celebration.

I will be sending home a “Kindness Light” assignment for families to complete and return so that we can add them to our “Lighting Up Our Classroom with Kindness” display. Please keep an eye out for the assignment!

Please remember to join the Ray PTA if you have not already done so.

***Please see archived posts for information about the Lottery for Kindergarten- The deadline is fast approaching!

We want to thank all of the families who participated in our very first Parent & Child Activity! It was a success! I would also like to thank everyone who attended our first Parent & Teacher Conference.

We are moving right along with our fall/autumn study! If you have not completed your nature walk with your child, please do so and bring in your findings ASAP. We will be utilizing them in our art, math, and science centers this week.

This week will be Ms. Katherine’s last week with us at Ray, we will miss her dearly. We have immensely enjoyed Ms. Katherine’s dedication, creativity, caring nature in our room! We will have a small celebration on Friday, November 18th. Please be sure to wish Ms. Katherine well in her future endeavors.

Please be sure to check your child’s mailbox for important information and homework.

We are in need of recyclable paper for our writing center. One side of the paper needs to be clean so that the children can use it for their work. We would really appreciate the donations.

We are busy bees and we go through a lot of supplies, we will shortly be in need of the below products. (If you have already brought in your supplies, we thank you and you do not need to do so again).
We are asking families whose last name begins with F-K please bring the following supplies at your earliest convenience,

Week of November 4th

Please be sure to sign up for the Parent and Teacher Conferences. There are still a few slots left on Wednesday and Thursday.

We would love for every preschool student and family member to join us for a very first Parent & Child Activity on Thursday (9:15-10:15 in the school cafeteria)! Please remember that every child must be accompanied by an adult and circulate through the activities with them.

The Parent & Child Activities are set up in a manner in which the parent and the child explore the activities together. It is a great way to experience the type of math and/or literacy activities we do in the classroom. It is also a great way to get idea’s to try at home with your child. Please remember to assist your child by encouraging and commenting on your child’s
participation.

Please enjoy the extended weekend! Please remember to go on a nature walk and gather the items on the list and return them on Monday, November 14th!
