Hello Parents:
We are winding down our “All About Me” Topic of Study with a few more family focused activities. Please remember to assist your child in completing the family portrait homework sheet. We will begin our study of Apples/Gourds/Pumpkins. We are collecting unique and cool looking gourds. Please feel free in adding to our collection. We will conclude our study with a trip to Eden’s Nature Center on Monday, October 31st. We will need 6 parent chaperones for each classroom. I have attached the field trip chaperone expectation sheet at the bottom of the blog. Please look it over so that you are aware of the expectations. Please keep an eye out for the detailed field trip form in your child’s mailbox.
We will be ready for volunteers to start in the classroom mid-October to late October. Please sign up on the volunteer sheet if you would like to volunteer. Please look over the volunteer options below and indicate on the sign- up sheet which volunteer role you would like to do. Please be sure that your volunteer paper work has been turned into the main office before you sign up to volunteer.

Parent participation is essential in ensuring that our preschool children have appropriate field trip experiences. We highly appreciate parents who are able to assist us on our outings! We want to thank all of the parents who will be assisting us on our trips in advance!
On field trips we ask that parents supervise their child along with a small group of other children. We ask that you follow all safety rules and abide by the set schedule especially for meal and departure times. We ask that you assist in buckling all students into and out of their seat belts. We ask that you buddy up with another adult to take children to the bathroom (if needed). We also ask that parents do not take part in any extra activities that are not included in the pre-planned field trip (i.e. going to any show/exhibit/performance that is an extra cost, or purchase treats or toys at souvenir shops). We have children with food allergies and it could be potentially dangerous to partake in treats/food made with unknown ingredients.
Thank You,
Ray Preschool Staff

Hello Parents:

I want to thank all of the parents who came out to Open House. Hopefully you gained a bit of insight of our classroom.

The children have worked diligently to learn school expectations this week. We will continue to review the limits and expectations throughout the week and the rest of the school year. We will finish up our study of “All About Me” this week. Please be sure to help your child complete the homework assignment of drawing their family and telling a fun or unique fact about your family. The homework will be placed in everyone’s mailbox on Wednesday, September 28th. Please return the completed assignment by Monday, October 3rd.

We began our lending library last week. Please be sure to reread the Lending Library Expectations. Books are to be returned each Tuesday and Check Out will occur on Wednesday. Please be sure to place the returned books in the Blue Return Book Bin…please do not place them back on the book shelf.

If your child has not received a “Me Bag” in their mailbox they should be receiving one this week or next week. Please be sure to send it back as soon as your can. We will be starting the Student of the Week this week as soon as everyone had completed their “Me Bags” Every child will have an opportunity to take the back pack home, complete the sheet, and bring in a favorite book and favorite toy to share with the class.

Once we have wrapped up the “All About Me” topic of study will be moving on to Fall/Autumn topic of study. We will be collecting cool gourds and small pumpkins. If you see a cool gourd that you would like to donate to our collection we would highly appreciate it!

I am hoping that everyone is settled into preschool by mid-October. If everyone continues to transition into the classroom smoothly I will be asking for parent volunteers to begin helping out in the classroom or doing “housekeeping” duties for our room. If you are interested please see me for a volunteer packet.

Hello Parents:
Thank you for sending all of the unique and heartwarming stories of how you came up with your child’s name. I will be displaying them soon, so if you have not turned in your child’s letter there is still time to do so. Also if you could please remember to bring in a family photo to add to our Classroom Family Tree.

We have been enjoying getting to know each other and building our classroom community. Please be sure to check out the “Getting to Know You” charts throughout our classroom. We have also completed our very first ‘Friendship Paintings” please check out the cool creations and read the description on the bulletin board.

We will be discussing in great detail our 3 Classroom Limits: 1. Take care of each other (be a good friend). 2. Take care of yourself. 3. Take care of our materials. We will draw pictures, act out scenarios, and read books about how to be a good friend and classmates. Be sure to talk to your child about what it means to be a good friend.

Please join us for our Open House on Thursday, September 22, 2016 from 5 to 6 pm. This is a time to learn about my educational philosophy, and how I provide developmental appropriate activities for the students. Directly after Open House their will be a PTO meeting that I also want to encourage you to attend.

Starting next week we will begin our Lending Library. Below is a description of the library procedures.

Lending Library Procedures
The classroom has a Lending Library. The children check out books on Wednesdays and the books should be returned the following Tuesday. Please be sure to return the book promptly, so that your child can check out another book (or renew the same book). If you lose a book, you may choose to replace it or bring in another book for the library. There is a box for returned books in the classroom (Blue bucket with bright yellow sign beside the lending library shelf. Please return them in the box- please do not put them back on the shelf. I need to check all books back into the library before they go on the shelves. Thank you in advance for your cooperation in helping the system function smoothly.
Remember it is normal for your child to want to check out the same book several times. Repetition is a natural part of early literacy. Please do not discourage your child from checking out the same book. Rereading and becoming very familiar with the story gives children a sense of accomplishment and success in understanding the “reading” world. Please be sure to discuss good book handling with your child and other siblings.
We realize that life happens and every now and then a book or two is lost or damaged. If that occurs, simply let us know and donate a book (gently used is acceptable- it does not need to be the exact book that was damaged or lost) to replace it.
In addition, we are looking for books in your child’s native language (other than English) for our classroom library. If you have any books that you like to donate or allow us to borrow please let me know. It is very important for children to hear stories in their native language. If you would be willing to come into the classroom to read a story in your native language please let me know so that we can arrange a time for you to come in and read to the class.

Hello Families!

We are ready for a second week of school! We are starting the school year off pretty smoothly. The first week was all about exploring the various areas in the classroom and learning school expectations. We will continue to build our classroom community for the month of September. As we continue to discover new things about the classroom we will also work on getting to know each other. Please remember to bring in your family photo to place on our classroom Family Tree. We will begin reading our “name letters” as well, so please turn them in.
We will also begin to develop our classroom tools to: help solve conflicts, take care of ourselves, and take care of our materials. Please be sure to keep an eye out for our “Classroom Limits and our Bugs & Wishes” in the upcoming weeks.
We are also going to begin our “Me Bag” activity. I will be sending home paper “Me Bags” that have instructions stapled on the outside and an information sheet for parents to fill out with their child. Please return the bag as soon as you have completed it. I will have one child share their bag each day. So please keep a look out in your child’s mailbox for the paper lunch bag! I will post the instructions at the bottom of this page in case you misplace the instructions.
We developed our Loft Limits and Book Do’s and Don’ts List. Please be sure to take a look at the list on display and remember to discuss them with your child to reinforce the items on the lists.

Ms. Bethanie

Me Bag Instructions:

Dear Families,

As part of our attempt to get to know one another better and to create a sense of community in our classroom, I am asking each child to make a ‘Me Bag” to share and present to the class.
Here are some rules to follow:
• Only bring small items that will fit inside the bag.
• The items cannot be too heavy.
• Bring no more than 2-3 items.
• Special items should tell something important about your child. A photo of your family would be a terrific item to put in the bag!
• Please make sure to write your child’s name on the bag and fill out the information sheet. You are welcome to decorate the bag.
Everyone will share the items in his or her ‘Me Bag’ to help the class learn more about your child. Please discourage your child from putting an item in the bag simply because it is “cool”. We will have “Student Star of the Week” later in the year for students to bring “cool” items to school. We look forward to learning more about your child through this activity!
