Hello Parents:
Curriculum:
We are settling into our normal school routine! The students are working diligently to learn the various expectations in all of the various school settings. The classroom, hallways, bathroom, and the playground are all areas that the children are learning how to utilize appropriately. The children worked together to create “Friendship Paintings” with their classmates. Please be sure to check out the awesome creations and take a moment to read the brief description! We will continue to work on building our classroom community this week. This week’s new activity will be structured small group activities. The children will participate in short developmentally appropriate activities each week. This week’s small group activities will focus on learning how to utilize the cooperation tool “The Wheel of Choice” and a Pattern Block math activity. The children will rotate through the 2 teacher led; focused small group activities during the week. The children will also partake in 2 independent small group activities as well.
We would like to thank Emily (Kai’s mom) and Adrian (Jordyn’s mom) for volunteering to make October’s play dough!
Reminders:
Please consider joining Ray’s PTA. The membership forms are in the mailboxes this week!
Please remember to turn in your family photo and the “What’s in a Name” letter so that we can display them in our classroom.

Curriculum:
The first week went fairly smoothly. We are getting to know each other and learning how to interact with each other and how to use the materials. This week we will continue to learn all about each other. We will delve into the 3 Classroom Limits: Take care of yourself, Take care of each other, and Take care of our materials. We talk about what that those 3 limits mean and discuss each one in detail. We will also introduce the “Bugs & Wishes” conflict tool for the children to use when needed. The children will use the props to: tell what bugs them and what they wish the other child would do. For example, “It bugs me when you take my toy from me, I wish you would not do that.”
In conjunction to learning all about each other and the classroom expectations we will begin exploring our families and what makes us unique soon as well. Please be sure to send in the “What’s in a Name” letter, kissing hand homework, and your family photo so that we can post them both. If you do not have a family photo I will be happy to take a quick photo and print it out for our Family Tree.
Reminders:
-For the safety of all the students at Ray, only use the main entrance on Kimbark for arrival and dismissal.
-Check your child’s mailbox each day for any important notes or work that will be going home.
– We use homemade play dough on a regular basis in the classroom. It would be very helpful if parents would volunteer to make a batch every two weeks or so. I will share the recipe that we like the best (it is very easy). There will be a sign up sheet/calendar placed by the sign-in/sign-out sheet.

Dates to Remember:

The children will be exploring the various areas of the classroom as well as making friends and learning all about our classroom community! We will be sending home/ class related work for you to complete with your child each week. Please be sure to take time and complete the work with your child. We will have students share their work with their classmates. Please be sure to read the Preschool Handbook….it has information that is pertinent to our classroom.. All parents who want to volunteer (classroom, field trips, special events, etc.) must fill out the volunteer packet. We will notify parents when they have been approved to volunteer.

Please be sure to check your child’s mailbox each day. We will put classroom as well as school information in them. Please be sure to sign-in and sign-out each day. Please be sure to enter and exit through the designated classroom doors. Our goal is to have a smooth and seamless entry and exit procedure. We have the transition organized in a manner in which the doorways will not be blocked. Please follow these procedures so that we can ensure that everyone arrives and departs in a safe manner.
