Hello Parents:
Curriculum:
In addition to the “All About Me” topic of study we will begin our “Fall Weather” topic of study starting next week. We will be studying apples, pumpkins, gourds, and other Fall nature topics. Please be sure to check our our wish lists on the doors. We will be asking for a variety of apples and gourds for our science area.
We have also begun our Star Student of the Week. Each week a different child will be given the backpack and have the opportunity to be the Star Student of the Week.
We will begin our Lending Library this Wednesday. Please remember to send your child’s library book back on Tuesday’s in the blue or yellow Library Bag. Please remember that children may choose to check out the same book over and over again….this is perfectly natural and should be supported. Children feel successful when they can “read” or retell the story and may want to read and reread the same story over and over. Please simply bare with the repeated readings and just remember that your child is gaining self confidence and a love for reading when reading the stories.
OPEN HOUSE: I will be conducting my Open House this Wednesday from 5:15-6:00 in the classroom. Please try to attend without children, it is easier to attend and ask questions without the distraction of the students.
Housekeeping:
Please be sure to dress your child for the fall weather and be sure to send a light sweater or jacket with your child to school as the weather becomes cooler. Some children become chilly when we are outside- especially the girls that wear dresses or skirts without thick leggings or pants underneath.
Please do not allow your child to bring toys from home to school. This creates problems in the classroom and toys may be lost at school.
Dates to Remember:
International Bike or Walk to School Day Wednesday, October 8th – (check your child’s mailbox for more information)- I would suggest that you walk/bike with your child on that day. Preschoolers need more supervision than the older children.
No School- Monday, October 13th –Columbus Day

Hello Parents:

Curriculum

Week three and we are off and running in preschool! We will continue to learn and review the expectations for each learning center in the classroom. We will also continue to discuss, practice, and role play how to solve conflicts and negotiate. The 3 Classroom Limits are: 1. Take care of yourself 2. Take care of each other 3. Take care of our materials. I will discuss in detail how we teach and assist our children on how to be successful in all three during Open House/Curriculum Night. I will also explain my teaching philosophy and practices. I will also explain the volunteer protocol and procedures for this school year. Please plan to attend the Open House without your children; there will be no child care available.

Our topic of study will now include “families” Please remember to finish your Name Letter and bring in your family photo if you have not done so. Please be sure to take time and assist your child in completing the homework as well.

We will also begin participating in the school wide “Student of the Week.” Each student will have the opportunity to be the student of the week. There will be “Student of the Week” backpack that will include a short questionnaire, and room for children to bring a special toy/item and a book to share with the rest of the class as they are highlighted for the week. Please be sure to answer the short questionnaire and send a special item and book with your child when it is their week to be the Student of the Week.

Housekeeping

Please turn in all paperwork as soon as possible. This includes the lunch forms, even though your child does not eat breakfast or lunch at school, it is very important to turn them in, the information that is collected on the forms may generate money for the school. If you would like for your child to eat breakfast/lunch they may do so. You would need to supervise them in a designated place during the meal. If you would like to do so, let me know and I will notify the lunchroom staff.

Make sure to check your child’s mailbox each day. Please be sure to bring in a spare change of clothes if you have not done so. The weather is also getting cooler, so please make sure that your child has pants and long sleeve shirts.

If your child misses a day of school, please submit a letter of why on the day that they return to school. We are very conscience of trying to keep our room as germ free as possible. In an effort to keep contagious illnesses down, we abide by the following standards: If your child has a fever, is vomiting, or has diarrhea we ask that they not return to school for at least 24 hours after the last episode. Please do not give your child a fever reducer and send them to school, they may still be contagious and pass on the illness to others.

There has been a change in the prices of the Ray School Shirts. Prices are now $10.00 and $15.00. We are also asking parents to either turn in cash or money order for all future items. I will have the 2 small sizes of shirts for parents to view this week. If you ordered a T-shirt please take a look and let me know what size you would like for your child.

Hello Parents:
Curriculum:

The first week of school went fairly smoothly! The new students are getting acclimated to the classroom routine, the teachers, and their classmates. The returning students are getting reacquainted with each other, Ms. Moore, and I, and some of the new events in the classroom routine.

This week we will continue to explore and review classroom routines, centers, classroom limits, and materials. If you would like to volunteer in the classroom, we are asking that you make sure you have your volunteer pack approved before you do so. We would also like volunteers to start in Mid-October. I will post a calendar on the “Parent Communication” board (which is located on the bulletin board near the entrance) for sign-up slots.

I want to remind everyone to bring in family photos and the “Name Letters” so that every child has a letter and a photo to share. I will be happy to snap a photo of your child’s family if you need an updated photo! Just let me know and I’ll snap a photo for you.
We will be starting our Lending Library Wednesday of this week. Please read the Lending Library Information Sheet.
Please fill out all of the paper work I put in your child’s mailbox and return it to the appropriate “IN BOX” located on top of the cubbies. There is an “IN BOX” for both the morning and the afternoon class. Please place all paperwork in the boxes- I will collect them from there and take them to the office.

Help Needed!
We use homemade play dough on a regular basis in the classroom. It would be very helpful if parents would volunteer to make a batch every two weeks or so. I will share the recipe that we like the best (it is very easy). There will be a sign up sheet/calendar placed by the sign-in/sign-out sheet.

Housekeeping

I want to thank all of the parents for getting their children to school on time and picking them up on time. Please be sure that you do not leave the door propped open when you are entering or exiting through the pre-k doors. We want to ensure that our school is safe and secure for everyone.  If you are late dropping off or picking up your child, please enter the school through the main entrance.

Upcoming Events
September 17, 2014- Open House- Open house for Pre-K -5th grade families at Ray from 5-7p.m. More information will be forthcoming.

Welcome Ray Preschool Parents:
Curriculum
Welcome to Preschool Room 405! We are excited to start with what we know will be an awesome school year! We will be focusing on getting to know each other these first few weeks of school. The children will be exploring the various areas of the classroom as well as making friends and learning all about our classroom community! We will be engaging in a variety of community building activities and we will be sending follow up information home. We truly believe that the home/school connection is crucial for school success. We will be sending home class related work for you to complete with your child each week. Please be sure to take time and complete the work with your child. We will have students share their work with their classmates. Please be sure to read the Preschool Handbook….it has information that is pertinent to our classroom. Please note: there is a correction to the birthday policy. We are requesting that all birthday treats have a healthy nutritional value. We are asking that parents (if they wish to) provide a non-edible birthday treat (such as stickers, pencils or other party favors) or a nutritional treat such as fruit or vegetables (such as baby carrots or pea pods, peppers with hummus, etc.). All parents who want to volunteer (classroom, field trips, special events, etc.) must fill out the volunteer packet. We will notify parents when they have been approved to volunteer.
