We are in the thick of our Eric Carle Author/Illustrator study! In addition to our study of the Eric Carle, we have begun transitioning into more focused activities for the children whom are moving onto Kindergarten next year and/or those who are developmentally ready to be challenged a bit more. Parents please notice the prompts in your child’s journal (2-3 times per week) and encourage them to answer the question and then move onto an open journal entry. We will also be transitioning the children in a guided journal page, you will notice the change over the next couple of weeks. We will be introducing the new guided journal pages to the children in small groups, thus we will phase-in the new journal pages a little at a time. Please assist your child in finding the journal question (which will be marked with a paper clip) in their journals and read the question together with your child.
We have also begun reading chapter books during whole group time. We have read book one in The Magic Tree House series Dinosuars Before Dark and the children were very excited to see what adventures Jack and Annie would face in each chapter. We will begin the 2nd book in the series this week. If you have any chapter books that have been a favorite in your household, please share them with us. We are always looking for quality age-appropriate chapter books for our class!
We want to thank the families who have donated items to the classroom! We really appreciate the extra supplies!
Catalyst magazine visited the preschool classrooms at Ray and took several photos of the children engaged in a variety of math and literacy activities. In a few weeks, photos from Ray preschool will be highlighted on the magazine’s website. I will post the link when the photos are posted on their site!
Please remember to dress your child warm- we will go outdoors during the winter months. Layers are fine- we will take time to practice putting on and securing the outer layers each day that we go outdoors.
Have a great week,
Ms. Bethanie & Ms. Martinez
