We are officially our lending library last week.   Please read the following procedures and enjoy the wonderful stories with your family!

Lending Library Procedures

The classroom has a Lending Library.  The children check out books on Wednesdays and the books should be returned the following Tuesday. Please be sure to return the book promptly, so that your child can check out another book (or renew the same book). If you lose a book, you may choose to replace it or bring in another book for the library.  There is a box for returned books in the classroom.  Please return them in the box- please do not put them back on the shelf.  I need to check all books back into the library before they go on the shelves.  Thank you in advance for your cooperation in helping the system function smoothly.

Remember it is normal for your child to want to check out the same book several times.  Repetition is a natural part of early literacy.  Please do not discourage your child from checking out the same book.  Re-reading and becoming very familiar with the story gives children a sense of accomplishment and success in understanding the “reading” world.  Please be sure to discuss good book handling with your child and other siblings.

We realize that life happens and every now and then a book or two is lost or damaged.  If that occurs, simply let us know and donate a book (gently used is acceptable- it does not need to be the exact book that was damaged or lost) to replace it.

In addition, we are looking for books in your child’s native language (other than English) for our classroom library.  If you have any books that you like to donate or allow us to borrow please let me know.  It is very important for children to hear stories in their native language.  If you would be willing to come into the classroom to read a story in your native language please let me know so that we can arrange a time for you to come in and read to the class.

Hello Parents:

We are all happy to get back to our regular school schedule!  The children are making a relatively smooth transition into school life.  We will continue to learn and review the expectations for each learning center in the classroom. We will also continue to discuss, practice, and role play how to solve conflicts and negotiate. The 3 Classroom Limits are: 1. Take care of yourself   2. Take care of each other   3. Take care of our materials. Please review the handouts that were given out at Curriculum Night.  If you did not attend Curriculum Night the handouts were in your child’s mailboxes.

Please send in your family photo and your child’s name letter- both are very important in order for us to delve deeper in our topic of study.  We will continue to explore the “All About Me” topic which will soon morph into the “Family” topic.

Please take a few minutes each week complete your child’s “homework” activity with them.  We have developed age appropriate activities for you and your child to complete together.  Most weeks the home activity will have a direct tie to our topic of study.  We will also begin our lending library this week.  Please refer to the Ray Pre-K Handbook for instructions about the Lending Library.

Please turn in all paper work as soon as possible (Please place all paperwork in the designated box on top of the cubbies).  This includes the lunch forms, even though your child does not eat breakfast or lunch at school, it is very important to turn them in, the information that is collected on the forms will generate money for the school.

Make sure to check your child’s mailbox each day. Please be sure to bring in a spare change of clothes if you have not done so. The weather is also getting cooler, so please make sure that your child has pants and long sleeve shirts.

If your child misses a day of school please submit a letter of why on the day that they return to school. We are very conscience of trying to keep our room as germ free as possible.  In effort to keep contagious illnesses down we abide by the following standards: If your child has a fever, is vomiting, or has diarrhea we ask that they not return to school for at least 24 hours after the last episode. Please do not give your child a fever reducer and send them to school, they may still be contagious and pass on the illness to others.

I will have the 2 small sizes of t-shirts for parents to view this week. Please take a look and let me know what size you would like for your child.  If you would still like to purchase a Ray School T-Shirt, please let me know.  Thank You

We are looking forward to a great week!

CORRECTION

Hello Parents,

We are excited to begin the new school year!  We were happy to see all of the families at Friday’s Meet, Greet and Find Your Seat event.   As I told many of you at the event, in the mist all of my excitement,  I put the incorrect start date for the children. Everyone should start on Tuesday, September 4th.  Please bring your child Tuesday and Wednesday for their designated phase in time.  Remember- if your child has a smooth “phase in” experience on Tuesday, there is no need to “phase  in” on Wednesday.   They are welcomed to attend the entire 2 hour and 35 minute class session.   Sorry for the mixup!

See everyone on Tuesday,

Ms. Bethanie
